Reefer containers for sale and rental
A reefer container is a refrigerated shipping container with its own integrated cooling unit. It holds a set temperature independently of the ambient conditions outside, which is what separates it from an insulated container: insulation slows a temperature change, a reefer controls it. We sell and rent reefers in 20, 40 and 45 ft, new and used, from our depot in Palmones, beside the Port of Algeciras, with delivery across Spain and worldwide.

Reefer container temperature range in practice
A working reefer holds a set point across a range that covers chilled and frozen cargo, with integrated units from Carrier, Thermo King or Daikin. The number that matters is not the lowest temperature the unit can reach but whether it holds the set point steadily under load, in the ambient conditions where it will sit. For static cold storage in southern Spain in August, that distinction is the whole question, and it is worth telling us where the unit will stand before you choose one. Stainless steel panels, polyurethane insulation and a T-section floor are standard.
Reefer container sizes: 20 ft and 40 ft High Cube
Reefers come in 20, 40 and 45 ft. Internal capacity is lower than on a dry container of the same length, because the insulation and the machinery take up space. We give the usable internal figures for the specific unit rather than the nominal ones. Reference values below.
| Specification | 20 ft reefer | 40 ft HC reefer |
|---|---|---|
| External length | 6.06 m | 12.19 m |
| External width | 2.44 m | 2.44 m |
| External height | 2.59 m | 2.90 m |
| Internal length | 5.44 m | 11.58 m |
| Internal width | 2.29 m | 2.29 m |
| Internal height | 2.27 m | 2.55 m |
| Usable volume | 28.3 m³ | 67.5 m³ |
| Tare weight | approx. 3,080 kg | approx. 4,800 kg |
| Max payload | approx. 27,400 kg | approx. 27,700 kg |
| Temperature range | -25 °C to +25 °C | -25 °C to +25 °C |
| Power supply | 380–460 V / 3F+N / 50–60 Hz | 380–460 V / 3F+N / 50–60 Hz |
| Average consumption | approx. 4 to 7 kW | approx. 6 to 9 kW |
Indicative figures; they vary by model and machinery manufacturer. We confirm the usable internal dimensions and the machine specification of the specific unit.
New and used reefer containers: condition and inspection
On a reefer, the grade of the box matters less than the state of the machinery. We check the unit runs, holds its set point and has its service history before it leaves the depot, and we tell you what we found. For a used reefer, ask for the machinery hours and the last service, and if we are not the ones who serviced it, we will say so. We also cover preventive maintenance, refrigerant recharge, periodic inspection and 24/7 breakdown service with a certified refrigeration technician.
One-trip (new)
Effectively new: one loaded voyage from the factory. Machinery with full service life ahead.
Grade A (used)
Previous service, good overall condition and tested machinery.
Grade B (used)
Visible signs of use, fully functional. Ideal as a static cold store.
Buying a working reefer versus a cold room
Two different purchases that often get confused:
A working reefer keeps its machinery, needs a power supply and is bought to hold temperature, whether it travels or stays put.
A non-operating reefer (NOR) has the machinery removed or disconnected and is bought for its insulated body, as a dry insulated store or for conversion.
Whichever you need, there are several ways to take it on:
Rental, short term or seasonal, with the option to buy later.
Trade in and buy back at the end of the project.
Outright purchase with invoice, CSC certificate and machinery service record.
If what you need is static cold storage, a working reefer plugged into site power usually beats building a cold room, and it can be moved later. We hold permanent stock in Palmones (Cádiz) and work with partner depots in the main ports of Spain and Europe.
Reefer container delivery from Algeciras
Algeciras is a major reefer port, which means units turn over constantly and plug-in points are routine rather than exceptional. We deliver across Spain by road, on a crane truck or hook truck, and ship internationally.
In transit the reefer runs on a genset chassis if the temperature has to be held, or travels disconnected for repositioning. On site we connect to 400 V three phase mains or supply a diesel generator set where there is no power.
Additional delivery services:
Standalone diesel genset for deliveries without mains power.
Additional temperature probes and GPS traceability.
24/7 breakdown service with a certified refrigeration technician.
Pre-trip inspection (PTI) before every hire.
Refrigerated container power, uses and documentation
Power supply: a reefer needs three phase power (400 V / 32 A) while it is running. We advise on the connection and, if you need one, on a generator set for mobile use.
Delivery and transport: across Spain from our base in Palmones (Cádiz) and worldwide by sea. Transport is quoted by destination and included in the quote.
Uses: chilled transport and storage of food, drinks, pharmaceuticals and flowers, and as a fixed cold store or freezer room.
Warranty and maintenance: we run and test the cooling unit before delivery and offer a maintenance service for the reefer.
Advice: our team helps you choose the right refrigerated container for your project, with no obligation.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is a reefer container?
A refrigerated shipping container with its own cooling unit, able to hold a set temperature for chilled or frozen cargo. It is used for cold transport and storage of food, drinks, pharmaceuticals or flowers, and also as a fixed cold store.
What temperature range does a reefer hold?
It covers both chilled and frozen ranges, typically from -25 °C to +25 °C. We confirm the range and the set point stability of the specific unit we would supply.
Can I buy a used reefer container?
Yes. We supply one trip and used units. For a used reefer, ask for the machinery hours and the last service; we check the unit runs and holds its set point before it leaves the depot.
Does a reefer need a permanent power supply?
Yes, while it is running. On site it plugs into three phase mains (400 V); in transit it runs off the vessel, the terminal or a generator set. We can supply a genset where there is no power.
Can I rent a reefer instead of buying one?
Yes. Seasonal cold storage is one of the most common rentals we handle, with the option to buy the unit later.
Do you sell reefers outside Spain?
Yes. We sell and transport internationally, including sea freight from Algeciras, one of the main reefer ports in Europe.
